Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) Update

May 29, 2024
This list is updated twice per year, the latest update being on January 23, 2024. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has added five new substances and updated one entry, bringing the total to 240 substances.
  • 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol (CASRN 732-26-3)
  • 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol (CASRN 3147-75-9)
  • 2-(dimethylamino)-2-[(4-methylphenyl)methyl]-1-[4-(morpholin-4-yl)phenyl]butan-1-one
  • Bumetrizole (CASRN 119344-86-4)
  • Oligomerisation and alkylation reaction products of 2-phenylpropene and phenol, including phenol, methylstyrenated (CASRN 3896-11-5) (EC# 700-960-7)
  • Dibutyl phthalate, updated entry (CASRN 84-74-2)
The substances listed above may be used in inks and toners, cleaning products, or adhesives and sealants.
What does this mean for you? Under EU REACH regulations, manufacturers and importers must adhere to the following rules when their product contains a SVHC substance present in a concentration of 0.1% w/w:
  • Importers and producers must notify ECHA within six months of inclusion on the list.
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS) must be updated to identify the substance as a SVHC and update safety information on the use of the substance.
  • Upon request by a consumer, the manufacturer must provide sufficient information to allow safe use of the product. This information must be provided within 45 days of receipt of the request.
Chemicals on the SVHC List could lead to future inclusion on the Authorization List, requiring permission from the European Commission before use. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this update and any products that you purchase from PH, please contact quality@palmerholland.com.
